My teacher that always gives group projects starts every class by telling us to write the names of everyone in our group and if someone is not pulling their weight and have been asked to do stuff and still haven’t done anything we can remove their name from the project and they get a 0. Safe to say we love her.

I feel this so hard. We had a group project for a drama assignment my foundation year (year 0) at university. We needed to make a short film (about 3-5 minutes) with a specific audience/subject, but the video was free reign.
I came up with the idea and started coming up with ideas for different shots we could do, and started a vague outline of a script.
One of the girls in my group dropped out of uni (so not her fault she left the group. dropping out of uni is a serious thing)
The other girl and guy were doing absolutely nothing and barely came to any of the classes.
The teacher eventually reshuffled the groups because so many people weren't coming to class, and that wasn't fair to the people who were and got assigned a group with them (like me). I ended up in a group with me (B1), 2 of my friends (G1 and G2) and a kind-of friend (B2) and I thought this would be better.
We talked about our ideas and they all liked mine. Me and G1 started making a list of shots, talking about location, camera angles, what equipment we would need, b-roll footage, putting together a list of people to interview. G2 wanted to leave that part to us, since that was our strong suit. B2 in the group was happy to do nothing. We agreed that he would help manage the tech, but then he didn't come to the session we booked with the tech people to learn how to use it. He also didn't know how to edit videos so that was up to G1, her strong suit. G2 would do the background music.
It gets to 2 weeks before it's due in and we haven't been able to start filming yet since G2 and B2 never got back to us about when they would be available, we were all starting to get stressed about it and had 3 other assignments due in about the same time.
Then lockdown happened and the teacher spoke to the exam board who agreed to change the assignment and extend it. In the end all we had to do was a 2 minute video saying what we were going to do, but we all had to do our own video.
    B2 failed the module.

Ohhh I feel this. I was recently in an optics class and the professor is notorious for being a tough grader so when doing lab reports, you had better do them well. This would normally not be a problem, but the professor wanted the reports to be a GROUP EFFORT. Skipping a bunch of details blah blah I'd get my parts done early with plenty of time before the due date, and then I'm waiting for my partners to send over their parts.... and waited..... and waited. Typically I'd get them with maybe a day left to put the whole report together, if I was lucky. EXCEPT it usually took a lot longer cuz the quality of the work done by the other people.... you could tell they put in minimal effort. So I ended up having to write most of the reports myself, at least heavily editing the other member's parts. I ended up getting an A in the class, but I was not shy about that passive aggressive credits approach. Part of the report was putting in each member's contributions so, you know

Honestly I was expecting my group project to be so bad and almost exactly like this. But my group project was actually really good, and despite our time differences, we all tried our best and a couple of us even got to meet up face-to-face on different days. Despite some of our presentation abilities not being the best a.k.a. mine lmao, T^T

Reminds me of my animation final. It was a group project where I had to take the lead because everyone else was dragging their feet. I ended up doing about 90% of the animation and having to inbetween what little animation my colleagues got done. One colleague was decent enough to have done all the backgrounds and helped immensely with the last day and a half of editing, because by then I was "functioning" at probably 3 hours of sleep across 72 hours and I was so tired that I think I went blind. As in, my eyes would be open, but I could not register or process any visual information that was being received. I really despise group projects because it becomes a game of chicken where your passing grade hangs in the balance. It's the worst kind of project and I hate teachers who assign them.

One of them ended up ditching us for another group (not like she was doing anything) so it was just me and my other friend. She tried to help but didn’t know what to do, so I ended up doing the WHOLE THING. like she didn’t even touch the project but sometimes she would leave to talk to other friends. Good thing I got a great grade on it because of me lol. idk I guess I thought it was fine at the time.

I know this is a super old vid but I wanted to chime in as a college professor. You did everything right by keeping and sending your communications to the professor. This is actually quite serious since it is a form of plagiarism for them to try to claim your work for their grade. I would say to anyone else reading this 1. don't wait until after its due. Let your professor know upfront. Otherwise its not fair that you take the hit on your mental health by completing the entire project. 2. Get everything in writing (emails/texts)!

I feel this so much, it hurts. Every f'ing group project went the same way, with me being the coordinator, doing the most work, and babysitting the other members (except one time where I met another me, it was glorious :D).
One group project (well, partner project), the other guy did absolutely nothing, blew off all of our meetings, and gave me crap work in the end. We had to do a presentation on it, and he was utterly failing his portion. So you know what? I called him out, in front of the entire class, took over presenting his section, and had him sit down. Hopefully that moment caused him to rethink his approach to group work

Well reading about group presentation stories in the comments,i also what to share mine.
    So,here it goes
I had a group presentation assigned to me three days before we were supposed to show it. I know it sounds like it's very less time but there wasn't a lot of work to do in the project either. I would actually say three days was a sufficient amount of time. If only everyone else in the group didn't decide to do it one day before we were supposed to show it. See i didn't have a lot of expectations from them since we were pretty much strangers. They decided to dedicate three hours on it. Since I didn't have hope I had already made a presentation just in case their working one day before didn't work out. I also wanted to mention that our teacher specifically told that we were supposed to add a lot of pictures to it. And guess what they did, of course they didn't add any. Now see,i did try aloy to tell them about it aswell showed a few slides of mine. They were done with it in three hours and it looked like trash. My eight year old cousin brother could make a better one. So I sais to them that I don't think this is working out very well and I do have one made. I can show it to you right now and if it looks any better to you we can use it. Also don't worry I will give credits to everyone.
One of the guys said thats fine.
But the other one just straight up refused and started giving me this whole lecture on this is a grp project and we should work together.
Mind you,he wouldn't take anyone's opinion. Also he said we worked so hard on it which for some reason pissed me off because I worked hard on it too. Got three hours of sleep that night to finish up the project and u just straight up refuse without even taking a look at it.
They ended up showing the teacher that and our teacher didn't like it very much. RIP my grades
So that was my story about the worst grp project that I have ever had and yeah thanks for listening to my story/rant

This is probably the most relatable things I’ve ever seen. This always happens to me and it’s the worse. Sure you could try and make them do work, but usually their work won’t be very good or have effort, so you have to do it instead. And a lot of them no this because they know you don’t want a bad grade, so they know that you will do the work anyway.

    *Content warning*
I had a group project in 8th or 9th grade with 3 other girls. One girl (lets call her A) was known by the whole class for not doing any school work properly and relying *heavily* on her two other friends to help her, which by the way, were also in my group. Her other two friends had an attitude I could not bear. A's friends would give A and other friends they liked special treatment that were too subtle for those who are outside to notice but are glaringly obvious for those who are directly affected by their behavior. (If people know that one TikTok which was this "Mean Girl" POV reel, they were like that).
We had to start on this project, but these 3 girls kept delaying when I was trying to take initiative to start the project work. Then (I really don't know how this happened) they all somehow got down this rabbit hole of A telling sob stories of how she has a difficult family situation and makes her life so hard. I don't fully remember what it was, but I think it was something about her parents divorcing. I could see she was clearly trying to use this sob story compilation to keep on delaying the time so that they (and A specifically) wouldn't have to do anything. The way she thought she could use something so serious like a difficult family situation to make me pity her and let her off the hook was beyond pathetic and infuriating. Not to mention this snobby attitude all of them had acting like I would *gasp* NEVER understand something so serious.
I'm the last person to minimize someone's life problems, especially considering I had a very hard past myself, so I know how being stuck in a situation like that can feel. I so desperately wanted to shout "You sit here complain about your family situation to get away with not doing any work, yet you have no clue about what I have gone through, but I put it aside to do my work", but I didn't. I have parents who should've been at least 6 years in jail for abusing me for 7 years. I almost died when I was 6, was grossly neglected by my parents and got bullied verbally and physically by racist kids in elementary school. I spent (and still do) my time alone because I have my own crap to deal with, but when people really care about me I will let them in my life. I don't treat my difficult past as a pity pointer to skip doing work.
The worst part is that the project was generally considered to be on an easy/regular level, yet that was still not good enough for A and wasted so much of my time degrading herself and at the same time hurting me. It takes a special kind of unawareness to be that destructive. I hadn't thought about this for a long time, but damn did it hit me like a brick.

This reminds me of a project that was due yesterday. It was a group project, but I was away when we started it. The next time we worked on it, the other two people in my group weren't there, so I was kind of lost. Once they were back, they didn't so much as look at the project, just spent the time gossiping. the day it was due, I had to stay in during my break while they went outside, and I finished it on my own.

UGH I HATE GROUP PROJECTS! I got in one project with this girl, and omg, terrible partner. We basically had to do a slideshow, but the problem is whenever she would complete a slide she legit searched up synonyms for every darn word and I was afraid we were going to pass the due date so I did 2/3 of the work myself.

This reminds me of a project I had to do one time in year9 (9th grade). So basically it was a charity project, we would choose a charity and organise a visit to that charity to ask them questions. Then we would make a presentation based off of the questions we asked the charity representatives and the answers they gave us and present it to the class for the chance to win a donation prize for said charity.
We didn't get to pick our groups but we could trade a person in/out of our group if we wanted. I got one of my friends (I'll call her PersonA) and two randoms (PersonB and PersonC). PersonA and I decided to locate the charity to organise a visit. After lots of emails and stress to actually find the place, we finally got a visit. PersonB and C did nothing.
I organised the questions to ask the charity and PersonA added/edited some. Once it was time to make the presentation, PersonA and I started working on them. Literally 4 WEEKS into the project the teacher is talking to us about how to improve our slides and PersonB literally looks up from her phone (which btw aren't even allowed in class) and asks "Wait we're doing a presentation?" OMG I died internally.
We did get the project done tho and the teacher gave PersonA and I achievement points (if u get lots of achievement point by the end of the year u can get sweets and stuff) and extra credit (my teacher also told the judges about this, oh btw one of the judges was the FRICKING HEADMASTER). Dunno what happened to PersonB and C but I doubt it was good.
Anyways there's my first group project experience where not doing well will affect lots of ppl, extra stress :)

I had a similar situation except my groupmates literally just decided to never respond. For our project we had all gathered separate data so I could not do anything without them sending their data, even just that was too much for them. They were fine sending in their emails so I could add them to a doc, after I begged them twice. I guess all they had to do was just send me a message with their email. Past that point I got absolutely nothing, keep in mind at this point we were already past the deadline. After asking twice for them to send their data, telling them i could literally do it myself. The only response I got was a passive aggressive message from one person telling me they would send it that night, and I got nothing that night. So eventually talked to my professor who gave me some other data to work with. Overall it took me only just an hour to do the whole project once I had data....

Summarise; social sciences class on identities, our group was given the 'animation video' meaning we had to draw an explanation of some kind. Being the artist, I did it and they did literally nothing, just audio and a couple of idea/ scenarios. So here's a story from one of my best friends:
When we were in Ninth Grade, one of our biggest projects of the 3rd Term in the School Trimester was a Group Vodcast in which we had to talk about the different Sustainable Development Goals and recommend solutions on how exactly we can accomplish them. It was a group project where we were divided into teams of 3, and we had until the end of March to accomplish it.
So my friend and his group managed to cooperate well with each other and they managed to create an outline that they could use as a guide when they begin recording. They agreed to do the Vodcast 4 days before the Deadline in a Zoom Meeting (it seems risky, but the teachers expected that we'd do it much later because it was supposed to be a one-shot natural session that only needed a few days of editing).
Anyways, on the said day, one of their groupmates literally bailed at the last minute because he had to attend to a "Doctor's Appointment" that the other two groupmates had no idea he had. Because of the shift in plans, they postponed the recording session to the next day and ended the meeting right there.
The next day, when they were about to record, the other groupmate suddenly said that he couldn't record the meeting because his sister was currently using the laptop and his only other device was an iPad (which he couldn't use to record).
At that point my friend was getting triggered and started ranting about it in our Discord Server. He also told us that they postponed (permanently) the recording session to the next day (one day before the deadline). However, it wasn't before the same groupmate who bailed for the "doctor's appointment" said that he was going to be unavailable because apparently he was going out of the country.
Eventually, the group managed to gain enough free time to record the meeting and my friend just spent almost an entire night editing the video and submitting it a few hours before the deadline.
And that's the story of my friend's crazy group project experience.

One time; we needed to make a project. Everyone got to work in a group of 3. I was with a friend and needed to work with this dude. My friend and I got really pissed because he didn't show up for meetings and didn't do anything. We asked the teacher for advice, but he said that we can solve it on our own, so we remove this dude's name from our group project. My friend and I stopped talking in the groupchat project and talked privately. We finished the project and delivered it on time. When the teacher asked how we solved it, we just got honest and told everything and he agreed.

I can't remember a single time I wasn't the person organising everything, handing out tasks, and compiling the result myself. At first, I was amicable about it, but after a couple of years, I asked to do four person group assignments alone. It's actually less work to do the whole thing alone than babysit three others through it while doing it yourself anyway.

On one of my projects for a class we divided the work up evenly. I would research the subject, draw and plan out how it would look.
Another would bring all the supplies like the poster board and markers, we’ll call her V.
The other girl would write everything on the poster board because she had the best handwriting in the group and print out a few things, we’ll call her B.
All of us would color a section of it.
Me and B did our parts. We discussed everything for a week and reminded V to bring the poster the next day so we could work on it.
The DAY she was suppose to bring it she smirked and said she “forgot her stuff at home”.
So because of her we got ten points knocked off because we had to rush through it on the day we needed to present.

My math teacher had us students do a 'Design Your Park' project with a pretend limit budget, large graph paper, and a list of stuff we can put into the park (like water fountain, basketball court, etc) with price listed. We were group into 4s so it was me, a girl, and 2 guys. During the whole project, the guys didn't do jack sh*t! They just sat there messing around while me and the girl were figuring out what to put into the park while not going over the budget. The girl and I had to asked them several times to help, but they ignored us. Once class was over, our project just needed to be colored and we were done, but NOBODY would take it to finish it. I tried to force on the guys to AT LEAST DO SOMETHING but they made an excuse and ran off. I ended up extremely upset while having to finish everything on my own. I even cried while coloring the project. Didn't help my frustration when I came home from school to find myself locked out of the house because my sister had the key to the house and she wasn't with me that day (can't remember why), no one was home, and nobody was picking up their phone! I just kneeled down, did my project in front of the house, in tears for a few hours until my family got home. They fussed over me and apologize for not coming home sooner and my sister helped me finish my project.
Next day, I made sure to tell the teacher about those boys and the girl in my group made sure to back me up. It was also fortunate I was my math teacher's favorite, the nerd with straight A's in math, and bookworm by my peers. Immediately, my math teacher set up a system for the whole class where we each individually write down how our members did on the project and she'll grade them on how they've done from the reviews. Of course, me and the girl made sure to put down that the guys didn't do anything. And that is my little middle school revenge.

I always come back to this video once in a while. For some reason it’s very comforting!

In my experience with group projects in my blue collar electronics program racism against me was the issue. In my post bachelor's drug regulation program it was more, people's lack of understanding of my medical mental health depression adhd issues and everyone else's exorbitant undeserved, spoiled sense of privilege which was the issue. There's always somethin'
