I have to get my wisdom teeth removed tomorrow and I remembered this video existed and it has helped me calm down, (mainly because I have a good dentist to go to and I'm getting the gas). Thanks Jaiden for sharing your experiences because it's helped me a lot to calm down and not be so scared.

i also used to be absolutely terrified of the dentist, but recently my mum found a new dentist for the both of us (because she's also terrified) and this dentist is so amazing. she walks you through what she's gonna do before she does them, she says that if i get too overwhelmed i can make her stop (unless she's about to do something that she can't just stop doing, but she warns me about that if that's the case) and SHE DOESN'T TRY TO START A CONVERSATION WHILE HER HANDS ARE IN MY MOUTH

When she mentioned getting her wisdom teeth taken out I was like: "oh but that's not that bad you're just out the whole time because of the sedatives" and then 30 seconds later she says how the nurse told her they "don't do that there" and I felt so bad for her

Is there any reason americans seem to get knocked out for any and all dental procedures? It's not a thing at all here. No painkillers or needles or anything for filling cavities at all and it's really not that damn painful in the first place, and a local for taking wisdom teeth out at best.
Can't even imagine a dentist prescribing pills like valium for procedures.
      Just why?

When I had my wisdom teeth token out they had me inhale laughing gas to make sure I didn't feel anything and for the first 3 teeth they removed it worked, but for the last one because it was so deep and was coming in crooked, I did wind up feeling that one which it wasn't the worst form of pain I felt but I can still remembered it to this day. Afterwards I was only allowed to eat ice cream for about two weeks.

Well this brought back some memories. Some number of years ago I was told that I had to have some sort of... minor tooth/gum related surgery. There was some dumb tooth that simply had never come down to the first place and because it "didnt look right" or some braindead reason the decision was made to have this procedure done to get it out and down and normal or something. I was absolutely terrified of this whole concept. I'm autistic with a lot of sensory issues and also just inherently nervous about basically everything, with a particular fear of the dentist, and this process involved like 4 separate needles in my mouth followed by I didnt want to know what, but I know it involved cutting. Did I mention I have a fear of needles? So, day comes, I'm having just this extended panic attack. I get there, and to deal with the needle paranoia, they put some sort of Mystery Goo on the spot the first needle would go so I didnt have to feel that. The remaining shots wouldnt be felt either because of the first one? I'm a bit unclear on how it went. Memory like a cheese grater.
I was fully awake throughout the entire thing, and much to my eternal bafflement, the whole thing was... boring. Spectacularly boring. A couple straight hours of staring up the doctor's nose as they did whatever while a variety of mildly odd sound effects took place.
All that absolute panic, only to result in the sort of utter dullness that makes you feel like your brain is going to dribble out your ears.
The worst part was that I could only really have soup the next few days. I was so tired of soup. Havent had any since.
All just ridiculous. It's amazing really, how fear works sometimes.

I was the opposite as a kid.
I loved the dentist so much that one time when I went, my brother had a appointment but I didn’t, so I started to cry cause I loved the dentist so much. The dentist saw me and asked me why I was crying and I said “cause I want to get my teeth checked” he ended up checking my teeth cause I’m guessing he felt bad for me. And while doing that he said “I’ve never had a kid cry cause they didn’t have an appointment” That dentist probably still remembers that. Like he was completely caught off guard by why I was crying.

that is very wholesome, but this is not a reply to this comment i just really wanted someone to read it, so yeah.
I've always been scared of dentists, needles and anything that i think could physically hurt me in a hospital, like really scared, and idk why that is.
but then I started dealing with my fear in a another way that was not just ignoring it, i started asking myself why am i scared, and after some time of asking and identifying these emotions, i discovered that the reason i was so afraid is that i subconsciously thought I would hate myself when i'm scared, probably because this is the way i used to deal with myself, to hate myself and think that i am weak because i'm scared, when i started comforting myself and saying that " i would love myself even when i am scared" constantly, the fear started to go away.
i'm still afraid of needles but I am very proud about my improvement,
the moral of the story is: sometimes the cause for your fear is something you never expected, and sometimes knowing that cause could help get over that fear, and start to heal❤️

I've many experiences with dentists and orthodontists, from having three teeth removed in one sitting, having a laser used on me to remove gum in order to expose one of my teeth, and that time were I had to have all my wisdom teeth exposed (very bloody operation, worse thing to happen in my life) and had to consume liquids and bite cottons for a month or more.

I've just had all 4 wisdom teeth removed. They were done separately. The first 2 (upper and lower left) and the other 2 (upper and lower right) a week later. Having it anesthesized really lessened the pain, though it still hurted but not too much. Things became complicated in the tooth extraction but was quickly resolved, or else it would have taken longer, so thank goodness hahaha. Overall it was a one-of-a-kind experience for me and only got a little nervous at first then in the end I felt relieved.

My mom was a dental assistant, so I actually kinda grew up in dental offices. When I had to have my wisdom teeth out, mom knew the doctor and he not only decided to take all of them out instead of just the one that needed to come out all at once to do me a solid, but I got the GOOD anesthesia and I wasn't conscious AT ALL. It was nice.

1:23 one time on spring break I had 2 teeth ripped out. They wouldn’t budge or even move, which is why it happened. They put needles on the top of my mouth, and DAMN I had 4 needles poked. 2 were mid, kinda hurt, but the last two really hurt a lot. It was definitely the worst part.
Once everything went numb, I had my left one ripped out, and apparently it had a “big vein” so it hurt like 10x more than it was supposed to. I was kinda scared for the second one but it just popped out, easy peasy. After that, eating was literal medieval torture. They took canine teeth on both sides of my mouth, and since I eat with those, eating was a pain for a while. If anything even TOUCHED the left side of my mouth, it would hurt so much. Even when my tongue touched it!!
Best part was that when we said how our spring breaks went at school, literally the first thing I said was “I got two teeth ripped out”. That was the coolest and scariest thing ever.

Just got started with this video. I can agree expect with a doctor. The doctors made me lose all respect the day I was held down by three nurses plus the strap thingy plus my MOM just to get a shot. I did make attempts to run out the room, scream at the top of my lungs, and beg for mercy on my soul…which still happens today. (I despise needles till this day).

I've had many trips to the dentist, and I too, get nervous. Most of the trips I had were mostly for cleaning and polishing, but there have been a few times were I've had to have some teeth pulled.
The most recent time I've had teeth pulled, was back in November 2019. (But I think most of this is because I haven't really been taking care of my teeth. So, that is partially my own fault.)
Edit: I've also had to get fillings in my teeth as well. I've always felt numb afterwards.

I had 14 holes in 4 of my teeth when I was 8. My mom scheduled 4 appointments to get them fixed up. She booked for the dentist to half anesthetize me, which meant that I was fully conscious and could still feel pain. It was just that the pain was reduced by half. When I got to the actual waiting room, I was nervous and sweating the hell out. The dentist told me that it would not hurt, and took out this anesthesia needle that I swear, was way too long for my comfort. She stuck it in my gums and injected it. Then after she confirmed that the anesthesia was working, and took out a HUGE needle.
"I'm just going to stick this into your gums. It'll be all over once I count to 40, ok?"
It was not ok. I felt the needle going *deeper* and *deeper* into my gums. It hurt so much I was about to say goodbye to the world. Thankfully, after that was over, the rest of the operation went smoothly. Whew, I won't be doing that ever again.
I still had 3 more operations.

I went to a children’s dentist so when you had to pull out teeth, they would give you a fruit flavored juice thing and when you left it in your mouth for a couple of seconds, you just wouldn’t feel any pain. ( they even let you pick the flavor of the juice)

I have an overwhelming phobia of medical procedures so the dentist is always a bit rough for me. You story is very similar to mine but thankfully I was able to get knocked out.
Honestly, the complete dismissiveness of people's fear is too common. Every time, "you'll be fine" or "you don't seem scared" it kills me how unhelpful that is. Of course I know I will be fine, but fear doesn't work that way! HELP!
Also, pulling your teeth out as a child out of fear is traumatizing. Gosh I hope you're able to see a therapist because I have been messed up by far less and I am still seeing a therapist for it. All the luck to you 🍀🍀🍀

I had my wisdom teeth removed and tongue tie release surgery 5 days ago, and I have a huge fear of hospitals/dentists and needles two things that don't go well together. (just the ones used by doctors, I'm totally fine with getting piercings and tattoos) My dentist who is a really chill dude, quickly started a iv when he noticed how anxious I was. He wanted to get me to sleep quickly so I don't freak out more. But seeing the needle caused to to have a full on panic attack.
The two Nurses tried to comfort me (I get very nauseated when anxious and panicked) they had to hold a tray to my face to make sure I didn't throw up. My dentist quickly got a sensitive in me and some meds to knock me out quickly, while my poor mother watched me panic.
According to my mom I kept mumbling about how the iv felt like a kool aid packet being squeezed I to my arm, and how I felt super dizzy.
I am now almost fully healed and can talk now (with a lisp due to my tongue finally being longer)

I remember getting some teeth removed for something I don’t quite remember so I was about 6 or 7 and I didn’t utter ONE WORD!! No: “Ouch”, “Stop” Crying
    N O T H I N G!
The dentists were so shocked that asked my mother if I could feel pain (The really did.)
They tried offering me things like a toy unicorn and stuff. (Because I told my mother I heard other children screaming in the other rooms) I declined in the most educated way possible.
They said I was the first kid my age that didn’t cry in TWO YEARS!!!
So after it was done I walk out of the room and see this other girl puffy, snot- dripping, eye watering face with gauze in her mouth like me. She started shoving her small pink unicorn in my face, bragging how it was so cool. I said it was nice and shortly after the dentist saw this and said I could get one too. I declined and he was d e t e r m i n d to get me something. He told me to follow him to the counter so I grabbed my mother (Because even at a young age I understood what pedophiles were.) We went to the counter. (The other little girl followed us and tried to look “sneaky” but I could see her anyway.” He handed me 10 dollars and told me to have a good day. I accepted and the other girl came back up to me and called me a robot because I didn’t cry. And me and my mother look back and laugh at this till this day, I responded: “Oh yeah, we’ll you look like a allergic-vampire.”
“Yes, by the way you should get a allergy test…,for onions.”
Not the best joke but I still liked it 👍
(I ended up by me and my mother boba anyway)
    THE END 😎

Fun fact: most doctors and dentists in my country give you lollies to try and calm you down instead of it being a reward
Example; a kid cried and moved all the time during their blood shot test. They are given a rainbow lollipop.
Another kid stayed still and smiled during their blood test. They are given nothing.

I have a VERY similar story. I had 3 days to pull out two of my teeth beofre I got my braces, and I was SO scared for them to do it for me, that i pulled both of them over the course of 5 mins... The worst part is, none of them were even CLOSE to being wiggly enough to get pulled out. My mom ended up paying me $60 for the same reason as you. XD

I remember when I had to get a filling, so my dentist gave me novocaine, but it wasn’t working, so she ended up giving me the maximum allowed amount, but I still somehow felt pain, so I had to pretend I didn’t feel anything while they did the operation.

I got my wisdom teeth taken out two years and for me it honestly wasn't bad. My wisdom teeth were already rotting and falling apart so it didn't take much effort for them to pull em. I didn't feel the needle at all thanks to the topical anesthesia which tasted like bubblegum.

Omg I have never connected with someone more than in this video. I too have an irrational fear of dentists and shake when im around them. I've been part of a program at a nearby dental college where they use me for a graduate assignment for a discounted price and I got there because my wisdom teeth were doing similar things and a couple of my other teeth had cracked and were falling apart. I had to go to surgery to remove the wisdoms and i was able to basically force them to IV sedate me cause there was no way I wouldn't have a panic attack and hit someone if I had been awake. I cannot imagine being conscious for it even on a relaxer. No thank you.

I had a similar experience to the wisdom teeth removal.
Very long story short: incredibly serious ear infection, doctor had to cut my eardrum open twice, first time traumatised me very bad cause the infection made the numbing thing not work so they were gonna give me calming meds the second time so I wouldn't have a panic attack like I did first time they tried to do it again.
So anyway all the "calming" meds did was make me not be able to control my body like at all and I had an even worse panic attack and now I have so much anxiety about hospitals, medical procedures and taking meds that just having to take pain killers for my period cramps gives me flashbacks to that and my anxiety flares up.

This is something I'll never forget...
So after school my mother had pick me up and brought me to the dentist. While in the car, my mother had a V Drink (Basically a type of energic drink). I ask her to see if I could have a sip, she said yes. After 5 sips, the sugar hasn't hit me yet. After walking through the main area, up the stairs and into the waiting room. The sugar decided to take control. Throught out the entire thing I was giggling so much that the faces of the people doing the thing was looking at me in shock... Real thing was I was trying to figure the brand of air-conditioning they had.. After the probing thing, we walked out and went to the car. My mother said, you do know that there was a needle in that right. I looked at her confused and replied, There was!!! I didn't see it tho...
    And that was it...

My dad took out my wisdom teeth, he said I would be fine and that I didn't really need to be sedated. I will never be able to unhear the sound of my teeth getting cracked out of my face. To this day, similar sounds freak me out. When he took my sister's out, he happily sedated her for it. I still won't let him live it down.

When I was little I was so terrified of needles that I didn't have my shots taken untill years later when it became absolutely necessary. I just looked at the needle and that was it. No fear, no horror no nothing. So ever since then I've just been calmly checking out the needle and that's how I cured my panic about needles. Strange.
But anyway when I got the last wisdom tooth removed I had a brilliant idea to use mouthwash. Let me tell you, when I had dislocated my kneecap and half of it had come off and the doc needed to use his whole upper body strength to push the huge needle in my kneecap cavity.. the mouthwash came second. I lost my conciousness a few times with the knee thing, but we're talking about mouthy parts here. It truly felt that the whole left side of my face was being grilled on open flame. Seriously. I kept punching my cheeck to numb the pain away. I cried for an hour and still kept abusing the left side of my face for well beyond that time. So take note kids - open places in mouth equal no mouthwash or anything like that for many days. Trust me, you'd say that I was right if you did that.

I actually had to get just one tooth pulled (at least so far) which was just a baby molar that needed to get pulled because the adult molar was trying to come out underneath and the baby one wasn't budging. I had to get a cavity filled in anyway.
But the gas that most dentists use for stuff like that is called "Laughing Gas" and makes you feel really weird and numb. It's really hard to explain the feeling of Laughing Gas unless you've actually had it before.
The dentists worked on my cavity before they pulled my molar so long story short the gas works so well that I didn't even feel them pull out my tooth. I didn't even feel any pressure or anything, I thought they were still filling in my cavity when they pulled my tooth :D
Edit: I forgot to mention that the reason my baby molar wouldn't budge because the roots were abnormally long and wouldn't let my baby tooth come out of my mouth

The last time i *had to* afford to go to the dentist was in 2019 when i basically had to shell out money i really couldn't afford to pull the broken remains of a wisdom tooth from my jaw. Was eating half a dried peadh, and some incredibly hard and dense bit met the tooth and just refused to move.

So, I got my wisdom teeth removed a little over a week ago. I was on max sedation (almost downright asleep, think Twilight). I wasn’t scared about the procedure, but the recovery sucks. For a week I could only have soups and ice cream (I’m not a sweets person). The gauze was funny, but I only had to replace them once. My mouth was constantly sore, and I had to take hydrocodone and ibuprofen constantly to alleviate the pain and swelling I would be fighting. This past Tuesday, I was told I could go back to normal with one exception, and I also had to start cleaning my bottom jaw incisions they had to make. You see, the roots started wrapping around the normal teeth, so they needed to make a bigger incision. Even more, these were by FAR the biggest wisdom teeth they’d ever pulled, so it was funky for them. Oh, that exception? Yeah, so I’m a musician on a brass instrument (trumpet). I’m going to college for trumpet performance and music education, so I’ve got a MASSIVE habit to practice for hours everyday. I haven’t been able to practice since the procedure, and I’m not supposed to until they’re borderline completely closed. It’s driving me crazy, cause I love playing. I have band camp in a few weeks, so I’m overly anxious about this, cause I want to be back to doing what I love. Life’s been boring since I can’t. Anyways yeah, that’s my wisdom teeth story.

Only thing I remember happening with my teeth when I was younger is smashing my face into aa glass door and chipped by two bottom teeth and being at risk of gum disease
I might've gotten a filling when I was younger too but I don't remember, though I might to get my own wisdom teeth out myself soon ;_; in Australia we have to get on a waiting list just even see a dentist and then if you need to get them out, you gotta go on another waiting list so sometimes you can wait up to 2 years or something like that just to get some teeth out, only reason I kinda hate Australia

to be honest, I'm not really scared of the dentist. I've had a tooth pulled out at the dentist and the whole process of pulling it out didn't hurt, It just felt a little numb but I'm ok with that. I've recently have been growing a wisdom tooth but I didn't want to bug my dad too much. So I didn't tell him about It until today, Which I should've done earlier.

I think my experience getting my wisdom teeth pull is more traumatizing.
Here I was, a young adult who having the ability to swallow pills, went to a specialist to get my wisdom teeth pull, the first but not my last time.
They were nice, we joke, they give me a booklet about what happens after, and said I’d be unconscious during it, yay.
On the day of the procedure they had trouble putting in the IV, I hate needles, and at some point went unconscious... for probably five minutes because as soon as I heard that drill I was awake, crying, and begging to be put to sleep, but they couldn’t and continued to pull them out as I try to ignore it.
Afterwards, unable to speak, I wrote my mom that I was awake during it. We still have no idea what went wrong. But I’m somewhat glad that I didn’t wake during another procedure, one that would be more traumatic then getting my teeth pulled.

It’s kind of crazy how you explained your lack of uncontrollable fear, because to me, it’s a pretty common occurrence. I’m a minor and have severe Trypanophobia (the fear of needles greater than any other fear I’ve ever felt), so every time I go to the hospital or Urgent Care, my body shakes and I feel light-headed at the slight possibility of a needle being stuck into my body with no consent from me because I can’t really make those decisions. Even typing this, I can feel a churning in my stomach and I despise it. I’m surprised you found the strength to even realize your fear was irrational while panicking, my rationality is usually swept away with adrenaline. Do you, perhaps, have any tips to help with the fear?

I have a vivid memory of entering the dentist. That’s it. I woke up in the car, head on a towel on my mums lap and my mouth filled with blood and 3 less teeth than I had beforehand. Genuinely have no idea what happened that visit or why I had to get my teeth pulled.
Oh and last time I went they were like poking my teeth with their hand (with gloves) and apparently I can’t not move my tongue for a few seconds so I just licked this poor dudes hand the entire time.
