Your story telling is soo good and I could actually kinda feel your pain.
When I was a teen, some kids stole my shoes at the public Swimmingpool. Since I was barefoot and my home was 4km far away, the pool attendant offered to drive me home. He pulled up a few streets too early and I was too shy to tell him. I told him he could just let me out on the spot, but he insisted on driving me to my front door. So I just pointed at a random house, he let me out, I pretended to ring the bell and waited till he left. Walking to my real home only took me 10mins though.
Next time I went to the pool, he asked if I got home safely, which made me feel pretty embarrassed again.
Also he searched for my shoes, found em dug under the sand in the volleyball area and gave em back to me. Thank you nameless pool attendant. 🙏

I remember having to help a friend of mine break into his house once, for essentially the same reason. He had to break a window and boost me up to it, made more difficult for him because I had to first move a rusty saw out of the way before I could haul myself in. Fun times!

My grandpa's house had a garage that wasn't connected to the house, so we never locked it. Didn't store anything of value inside, just some beach equipment, hammock, grill, old garden decor and so on. It even had a toilet connected to it. So, long story short, I once lived there for two days and one night because I forgot the keys and didn't want to go back to the city. It was a bit a bit scary to sleep there, but otherwise it was just fine.

I've had precisely two experiences with Uber, and both were on my honeymoon. It was pretty good, actually. The first guy was a Bostonite who seemed like he worked around three of what one could loosely call 'jobs', one of which was Uber driving. The guy on the way back was very quiet, which my wife and I appreciated since we were catching a flight at like 4:00 in the morning.

Reminds me of a time in middle school when I was locked outta my house. I used some scrap wood to climb onto the roof so I could get into an unlocked second floor window. The gutters were gross, so I cleaned the ones on that part of the roof and then took a nap.

For anyone wondering no it's not a crime to break into your own home because breaking into a house involves entering a home uninvited or without permission but considering that you own the home and have no intention of committing a crime you can't really be arrested

House break-ins are actually pretty rare, and when they do happen they're usually crimes of opportunity (the front door or garage door are left open) or the robber somehow knows the owner (like a friend, relative, or fan of a celebrity). In any case, the robber is much more likely to just pre-emptively pick a point of entry and go for it. They'll pick a lock or break a window. It wastes time and looks super freaking sketchy for someone to just be wandering around a house trying doors and windows.
So my suggestion to people is just keep a second floor window unlocked/ajar so you can get into your house without a key. If you don't have a second floor (like I don't), it's still probably worth keeping something unlocked, especially because like I mentioned before, the odds of you being robbed are actually increasingly low (due to the insane prevalence of security cameras nowadays) and *if* you are robbed they're probably gonna have a premeditated plan to do so instead of trying each window and door.
Car break-ins on the other hand, are as common and random as ever because the barrier to entry and risk of getting caught are so much lower.

Fun fact- apparently, its quite common for women to give near addresses to their house to Uber drivers, so they won't have the exact address (in case you get a skeezy driver). And frankly, the driver probably wouldn't have cared even if that wasn't a common thing...

At my mom's old house, I lost the keys one time. The only window we kept unlocked was the teeny tiny one above the kitchen sink. So for several months after losing the keys (cuz you try telling an abusive parent you lost your keys-) I walked around the back and crawled in through the window into the sink to get into the house.

I had a very similar experience as a kid I was supposed to wait after school for my siblings because my sister had the keys but one day I just forgot and rode the bus home I eventually realized nobody was home so I just sat on the front porch for a while the sheriff drove by a few times until one time he asked if I was okay I told him the situation and then he told my siblings The moral of this story is to remember when you have to do something

You know, when I was a kid, I was a bit of an idiot. This led me to lose/forget my keys constantly. Eventually, I just started to leave my dining room window unlocked so I could crawl through it. But, there was a slight problem with that: my dining room was on a slope and I had to go grab our massive recycling bin, stand on it, do a pull up the reach the window, keep myself up with one arm, remove the grating, push the window open, lift my leg above my head to step through the window (I refused to just pull myself through), crawl through, put the grating back, close the window, then go out the front and put the recycling bin back.
I kept this up for a few years until I noticed something. The window in my room was on the ground floor (literally like one or two feet off the ground), and was completely obscured by a bush. So I was the only one that even knew the window was there. After realizing that, I decided to just put my keys in my jacket and never change jackets. Ah, I lived in the south (not gonna say where, but it was humid and pretty warm), and my commitment to keep wearing that same jacket extended to the summer.
Anyway, I was a pretty dumb kid. As an adult, I've matured somewhat. I mean, I'm currently on my third jacket, and this time I made sure the jacket had enough room for.... uhhh... totally useful things that I DID NOT just forget to throw away....

When I first saw this video I thought this was some kind of rare scenario that would never happen. But no. I was coming back from a trip with my mom, and because I worked night shift when we got back I instantly had to go to work, so my mom dropped me off at my apartment quick so i could get changed, and I realized the WHOLE time of the trip, I had forgotten my keys INSIDE my apartment. And unfortunately, I didn't have a housemate of any kind. So I had to basically tear out the bug screen on the window, then use all my force to open said window, slide through the window as best I could into my house, trying to do this quickly so no one saw me and thought I was a burgler, and then quickly drag the screen inside so no one stole it, close my window, get changed, and then get out actually remembering the keys this time. AND THEN I LOCKED MYSELF OUT OF MY SECOND APARTMENT TOO LIKE A YEAR LATER

Glad to know Uber is a literal shot in the dark. Had that experience, funnily enough, on my way home from the airport. Much confuse with the app and payment but I had a wholesome guy who did not kidnap me. Still think Uber sucks tho xD

Jaiden, here's the answer to "Is it a crime to break into your own house?"
Yes, you can get in trouble for breaking into your own house-at least temporarily. If the police are notified that there is a break-in at a residence, either by a neighbor or a security alarm, they can detain or arrest you until you can prove that it is your home. It's unlikely you'll be charged with any crime, though.

My friend went into her boyfriends house once because she had his house key and was home alone. she was told to lock the door when she got in because he didnt live in a great area. 20 minutes later she looked at her phone and she had several missed calls from her boyfriend, who was locked out of his own house whilst she was sat stroking his cat on his bed xD

I walk home from my school and the amount of times I’ve forgot my key and was locked outside was tedious. My mom doesn’t get home for around 2-3 hours from when I get home, and I have to get my little brother off the bus when he gets home, so then we both are locked out.

ive done this a few times. and guess what i did if i left any of the windows open. climbed up and nose dived in lol. hurtful part however is that i live on a busy ass road so mutiple cars are always driving by or stuck in traffic so i either had to wait for the perfect time to do that or call my neighbors to watch me climb thru the window

I've never used Uber before, but I wouldn't be surprised if they sometimes see people get out and then walk off somewhere. Sure it's his job to drive you home, but some people aren't comfortable with random strangers knowing where they live. Getting driven to somewhere near their home and walking a block could be preferred.

I’m curious how far away the driver was from the airport when they cancelled. Sometimes Uber drivers cancel when they realize they’ll use more gas and money getting to and from the destination than they’ll earn from the ride. I used to take Uber regularly while I was looking for a car and at the time the app wouldn’t inform the driver where they needed to go until they accepted the request - so if I was in New York City and wanted to get back to New Jersey a lot of people would accept the request, see New York City, and just cancel the ride because driving in New York City is insanity

When I moved into a new place with some roommates, I didn’t have the foresight in putting the extra house key on my key chain. So when I got home from work at 11:30 PM, I was locked out and had to climb through my unlocked bedroom window from the backyard to get inside, so all was well. But the next day I found out that I was recorded the whole time since my roommates installed motion sensors near the doors and windows that activated security cameras that saw me just awkwardly crawling with all my work gear through the window. So they definitely got a good laugh out of that and poked fun at me for a little while before giving me the tips to hidden keys and security codes so I wouldn’t have to make a fool of myself again. And now we’re one big happy household
